Sir - I agree wholeheartedly with Allan and Rachel Chapman (Letters, December 14) regarding the unacceptability of public mosque calls and the difference between these and church bells.
When I was at school, an inspired religious studies teacher told us that God was like a mountain, with the human race gathered around it. People on different sides of the mountain had different views of it, which is to say that different people see God from different religious and cultural perspectives.
In the current world atmosphere of "our God is better than your God", I feel that many could learn from this simple lesson. Ramming our particular faith down other people's throats (or through their ear holes) has more to do with competitive human nature than with the infinite nature of God.
