A BRIDGE was closed this afternoon after the discovery of a World War Two shell in the River Thames.
Thames Valley Police temporarily closed the Shillingford Bridge in Wallingford Road, Shillingford this afternoon.
Officers from the Ministry of Defence ordnance disposal have now safely disposed of the bomb, reportedly in a nearby field.
A cordon was in place while the incident was dealt with, after magnet fishers discovered the bomb.
Members of the public were urged to avoid the area while the road was closed.
