A HOSPICE has sent out over 100 hand-made Easter gifts to families this weekend.

Helen and Douglas House sent 150 'spring packs' to families across the county who have terminally ill children.

Helle Gujral, who volunteers at the hospice and coordinated the Easter gifts, said she wanted to bring smiles to the faces of children who have had such a tough year.

The spring pack contained Easter goodies including a colouring book, Easter Egg, toys, jigsaws and art materials to help keep the children entertained.

Karen Walder, whose son Max visits the hospice for respite care, said: "We received the spring gifts yesterday which Max and Martha enjoyed opening and exploring today.

"There was plenty to keep them entertained and so much thought and time has gone into it."

Helen and Douglas House is a children's hospice that provides palliative care.

Ms Gujral said: "I worked on all these every day for about a month, 6-7 hours a day as I wanted to complete as much as possible for the Spring Packs for local children with life-shortening conditions.

"It has been a tough year for us all.

"The restrictions, lockdowns, social distancing and isolation is making life very hard and many Helen & Douglas House families have had less support from family and friends so have needed support from the hospice.

"I have found solace in my crafts and it means much to me to be able to make for others - hopefully it will bring a lovely smile to the children’s faces."
