WE reported that new Government guidance suggested flying the Union flag on UK Government buildings every day in a bid to unite the nation.
Union flags are only required to be flown on UK Government buildings on designated days, but the new guidance from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will ask for it to be flown all the time in England, Scotland and Wales.

Government ministers said the changes would be a 'proud reminder of our history and the ties that bind us'.
In a poll carried out on our website which 404 people responded to, 57 per cent supported the move while 43 per cent were against.
We asked you whether you thought this was a good idea and here's what you said:
BENJAMIN CONDON: “I’m totally okay with the Union Jack/Flag, I don’t find it racist, I like seeing it and it being used and happy to wave it or see it waved, but I do think it’s a bit naff to fly it ‘on every Government building’ all year round.”
DAVINA JANE: “No. I think the St George’s flag should be up.”
GORDON KNIGHT: “Of course it should, it’s our country's flag.”
GERARD GAYNOR: "Yes, and it should be made law."
ALAN BEAMES: "Absolutely yes, it is not even a question to ask."
CHRISTOPHER GIBSON: “I would be extremely interested to see any reason as to why any person believes that the flying of a state flag such as the Union Jack is in anyway or form offensive and to give the evidence to support their argument.

"I would also suggest people hold a right to there own views that may vary. Though I do suggest it’s important that any country regardless fights to retain its identity as much blood has been spilt throughout the years .
"I also suggest if anyone is offended by the flying of a state flag , please do your due diligence to what a country's flag represents and to when it was first introduced.
"I would then suggest naming a country to which doesn’t hold a sovereign state flag.”
DAREN BOWYER: “Yes, let us share our national pride.”
BILL ROSIER: “Yes. Let’s start to be proud of our country.”
PAUL TILBURY: “Yes. Other countries are proud of their flags, why shouldn’t we be? It’s almost as if we should be ashamed to be British?”
PAULINE DAVIES: “Most definitely fly the flag.”
SAM MEADE: “Yes, but someone's bound to be offended somewhere.”
OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER GEORGIE AGDGDGWNGO III: “We should be flying St George’s flag from public buildings. This is England.”
OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER BLOXHAMOX: “Absolutely yes. All over the world you see national flags flown with love and people really care about their country. We don’t even celebrate our country's patron saint properly but you always see St Patrick’s Day celebrated, even by non-Irish people.

"We need to take back the Union flag (we are still a union for now) and be proud of it and our country without being classed as right wing or football hooligans. Patriotism is not a bad thing, it brings people together.”
OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER DREVANS: "I’ve no particular problem with this, but I’m not sure it’s worth wasting much thought or effort on it. There are plenty of problems in this country that need solving, and we don’t need to waste much time on distractions.”
OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER NORTON MANOR: “Yes the Union flag should always be flown on the roof of the Town Hall.”
OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER BOB THE WORM: "To all those saying "yes", why? What's the point? I've got nothing against our flag, but I really can't see what purpose it serves compelling people to display it.
OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER JELLY JO: "It is the flag of our countries. Of course it should be displayed. Other nationalities who are here have chosen to be here and should embrace our flag as the have our countries. Mutual respect for all nations especially when you are in those nations.
