A BUSY Oxford doctor has turned the adventures of her Poochon puppies Coco and Lychee into a fun and educational children’s book.
Usha Kini, 51 is a doctor at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford, she is geneticist and often works with children.
During the pandemic, the doctor decided to use her downtime to put down her stethoscope and write a book.
Usually Dr Kini publishes medical journals, but her new fun children’s book ‘Adventures of Coco and Lychee’, follows the lives of her two puppies as they settle into their family home in Oxford.
Dr Kini said: “I have a very busy schedule as a doctor but during lockdown I felt I really needed to do something new and different.
“Because I work with children, I can relate to them, I see them reading books in my clinic waiting to be seen.
“That is where it all started, I thought I could write about experiences with my puppies and turn it into a children’s book”.
She added: “We couldn’t go out or go on holiday, so this was a very nice way of relaxing and doing something different and it gave me a lot of joy.”
The book is appropriate for children age two-six.

It has eight short and easy to read chapters which are perfect for a bedtime story.
Written from the puppies’ perspective Dr Kini explains the stories promotes family bonding and discipline through Coco and Lychee’s escapades in Oxfordshire.
Dr Kini uses normal childhood experiences such as going to the doctors, school and getting into trouble in the lives of her puppies.
Coco and Lychee learn from their days out to the vets, puppy parties and their first Christmas, the book even shows them getting into mischief.
Dr Kini wanted to put a smile on the reader’s face before going to bed.
She said: “Each chapter ends with ‘good night, love you all’ to make every child go to bed happy with a warm fuzzy feeling.”

Already the doctor has had good feedback from children and parents and said she is already working on the next edition.
Being from Oxford she has plans to write about adventures in Blenheim Palace and in the city centre, bringing famous Oxford landmarks into the easy-to-read bedtime stories.
It is now available to buy from Amazon, Author House, Waterstones, Barnes and Noble, Ingrams and many other outlets.
The book is also available to buy on e-book and will soon be available as an audio book.
