AN ONLINE fundraiser has been set up for a grieving daughter who lost her father in a house fire last month.

Martin Patten, 77, died on February 19 in a house fire on Watlington Road, in Cowley alongside his beloved dog Jolly.

People are now trying to raise money so Mr Patten's daughter, Fiona Patten, can rebuild the house that was destroyed in the fire.

The GoFundMe page, set up by Lynne Berry, a friend of Mr Patten's daughter, is trying to raise £35,000.

On the page, Ms Berry said that there is 'barely a shell left' of the house and added that the insurance on the home had lapsed.

It is hoped, therefore, that this fundraiser will help raise money to help Ms Patten restore the home.

She also paid tribute to Mr Patten saying that he 'worked hard his whole life' and 'would have helped anyone'.

At the time of writing £636 of the target has been raised.

Ms Berry said that restoring the home would allow nearby neighbours to live in their own homes 'without the constant image of what tragically took place'.

She added: "Marty Patten brought some immensely proud people into this world.

"He also brought some very loving, giving people into this world who would help anyone in any way they could.

"I am asking you to do the same."
