In reply to Anita Fisher, of The Slade in Headington, Oxford (Oxford Mail, December 12), I and my fellow councillors, especially Saj Malik, have discussed the problem of cars being left in the road with 'For sale' notices displayed in their windows.
The legal problem is that if there are no parking restrictions and the cars are taxed, there is nothing councillors or the police can do.
I suggest that residents check the tax discs against the number plate to make sure that tax discs are not being swapped between two cars.
They can also check the car registration number on the DVLA website and see if it has tax. You can report untaxed cars direct to Control Plus on 01865 247090 or contact the city council enforcement officer on 01865 252931.
This problem is discussed regularly at the Cowley Nag (Neighbourhood Action Group).
We councillors know it is a growing problem in the area and we are trying to find a solution to this problem.
