THERE are a number of flood alerts still in place across Oxford.

One warning about the River Thames between Newbridge and Kings Lock above Oxford was removed in the last 24 hours, but four alerts still remain active.

This means that flooding is possible and people should be prepared.

These are the flood alerts in Oxford as of today:

  • River Cherwell from Lower Heyford down to and including Oxford
  • River Thame and Chalgrove Brook
  • River Thames and tributaries from Buscot Wick down to Kings Lock
  • River Thames and tributaries in the Oxford area

The Met Office confirmed that flooding of properties is not currently expected but added: "The next few days are forecast to be very cold, mainly dry, but with a few snow showers.

"River levels are forecast to continue to fall but will to continue to remain high and out of banks over the coming days. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are in the area clearing trash screens.

"Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings, avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses."
