DRIVERS heading out of Oxfordshire faced long delays tonight after a pile-up closed the M40 in Buckinghamshire.
Police said the crash, involving ten vehicles, had led to the closure of the southbound M40.
The crash happened between Junction 2, the A355 (Beaconsfield) and Junction 1A M25.
Queues stretched back to Junction 4, the High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout.
The pile-up happened at 5.40pm and initial reports said one vehicle had overturned.
All emergency services are at the scene.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said later that three people had been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police opened one lane of the motorway later, with the partial closure in place for several hours while collision investigators attend the scene.
Police suggest southbound traffic should take the A404 southbound towards the M4.
- A broken-down lorry on the A34 near the Milton interchange also led to long queues and congestion on surrounding roads as drivers diverted off the A34.
