A WITNEY couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary on Saturday with a good old-fashioned meal - fish and chips and cups of tea.
Bob and Marjorie Loveday are holding back for a full celebration until Christmas, when their family will be together. Mrs Loveday said: "Our family are all over the place, we've one son in Kuwait and another in London.
"But we like fish and chips and my son and daughter-in-law are bringing them in from the local chip shop on the anniversary."
The couple, who live in The Crescent, were married on December 15, 1947, at Westfield in Sussex. Marjorie, 90, was originally from Walton-on-Thames, and Bob, 84, from Norwich.
Her first husband was killed in the Second World War. Bob was one of his best friends. He served in the 8th Royal Tank Regiment while his wife was in the Auxiliary Territorial Service.
After leaving the Army, Mr Loveday joined the police in Oxfordshire and, until he retired aged 50, spent most of his time based in Witney, ending up as a sergeant. He then worked in the audit department of the NHS in Oxford.
The couple have two sons and six grandchildren.
