ANOTHER seven Covid deaths have been announced at Oxfordshire’s hospitals as the UK recorded its highest daily death toll of the pandemic.

The county deaths took place at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), which runs the John Radcliffe, the Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Banbury’s Horton General Hospital.

Three of the patients died on Monday and four on Tuesday.

The total official coronavirus death toll at the trust since the start of the pandemic is now 305.

According to Public Health England, as of 9am Wednesday, these were the number of new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours:

  • Oxford - 116
  • Oxfordshire - 373
  • UK -47,525

The total coronavirus cases since the pandemic started:

  • Oxford - 6,757
  • Oxfordshire - 24,389
  • UK - 3,211,576

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

A further 1,564 people were reported to have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

It takes the UK death toll to 84,767.

As of Tuesday, there have now been 2,639,309 people in the UK vaccinated against Covid-19.

Globally, there have been nearly 92 million confirmed Covid cases, as well as more than 1.9 million deaths.

The US continues to have recorded the highest number of cases and fatalities.
