Sir - I was saddened but not surprised to read the article of November 30, concerning the state of high tension among detainees in Campsfield House.
The recent suspension, and now sacking of the Chaplain, Father Seraphim Vanttinen-Newton, will not have helped. His only offence, it seems, was to give an interview to Radio Oxford for its religious broadcasting strand. One wonders if The Geo Group UK, who run the detention centre, has any plans to replace the Chaplain, or if in fact, this whole sorry episode will be used as an opportunity to withdraw pastoral support from the detainees altogether.
