Another massive rise in Covid cases has been recorded in Oxfordshire with more than 500 new infections in a day.

According to Public Health England, as of 9am Monday, these were the number of new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours:
- Oxford - 79
- Oxfordshire - 528
- UK - 58,784
The total coronavirus cases since the pandemic started:
- Oxford - 5,557
- Oxfordshire - 19,482
- UK - 2,713,563
Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
A further 407 people were reported to have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.
This takes the UK death toll to 75,431.
At Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), which runs the John Radcliffe, another two Covid deaths were announced today.

An NHS England update revealed one death took place on Saturday and the other on Sunday.
It takes the total official coronavirus death toll at the trust, which also runs the Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Banbury's Horton General Hospital, to 257.
As of Wednesday, December 30, OUH was treating 185 Covid-positive patients, with 21 in serious enough condition to need to be on ventilation.
Since the start of the pandemic the trust has treated 1,972 people who tested positive for coronavirus.
There are currently 23,823 people in hospitals across the UK with the virus.
As of December 27, 944,539 people have had a first dose of a Covid vaccine.
