Matt Hancock has today announced that most of England will be in some form of lockdown from tomorrow. 

The Secretary of State told the Commons this afternoon that most of the South East would be put into Tier 4. 

Here is a current full list of which area is in each tier with updates announced today in brackets: 

Tier 1: Medium alert

  • South West
  • Isles of Scilly

Tier 2: High alert

East Midlands

  • Rutland (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)
  • North West
  • Cumbria (will be moving to Tier 4 from Thursday 31 December)
  • Liverpool City Region (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)

South West

  • Bath and North East Somerset (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)
  • Cornwall (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)
  • Devon, Plymouth and Torbay (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)
  • Dorset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (areas covered by Dorset Council will be in Tier 3 and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole will be in Tier 4 from Thursday 31 December)
  • Wiltshire (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)

West Midlands

  • Herefordshire (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)
  • Shropshire, and Telford and Wrekin (will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December)
