A GOVERNMENT source suggested Tier 5 restrictions could be introduced to curb the rate of infections across the country.
A so-called ‘Tier 5’ lockdown could affect millions of people within the next week as the new variants of Covid-19 continue to spread rapidly across the country.
We asked our readers if they thought Tier 5 restrictions were necessary.

SHARRON MORGAN: "If they are going to do a national lockdown again they have to do it properly.
"Close the schools, colleges & universities. All shops except supermarkets. No travelling further than your home town.
"Stay at home only for work, food, or medicines. Go as far as having a curfew. If they are going to do this it has to be done properly."
CHRISTOPHER ABEL: "The full national lockdown in March worked better with a simple message, I think that is needed now."
KATIE WEBSTER: "Forget the tiers just go back to a hard lockdown. It's less confusing and worked."
MICH MORBEY: "What’s the point of announcing 4 tiers and then introducing more? Everything in this country always has to be so confusing and then it still doesn’t work anyway.
"We’ve been in tier 4 for all of days so surely we should stay the same for at least a couple of weeks to see if it flattens the curve before imposing even more restrictions. If everyone sticks to tier 4 rules I’m sure they will be enough."

LORRAINE PHILP: "The amount of cases and poor hospitals struggled to cope I think we do."
LEE BUCKINGHAM: "What we need is people following the simple instructions. Hands. Face. Space."
JULIA SOMERVILLE: "They should give us two weeks notice to do two weeks food shopping and close all shops the only people who should work are health care and farmers NHS, emergency service."
ANNA WILLIAMS BUXTON: "Just do it properly and close the schools, universities, and colleges down. Essential shops only food shops."
NATALIE MORT: "No matter how many tiers there are the stupid people will never stick to the rules. It will take someone close to them to get it or even die for these people to realise. That is the sad thing."
NATALIE ANNE: "I think we just need a full lockdown for 4 weeks."
SARAH WADE: "How many tiers do we need? This is far more serious than a wedding cake."

STEPHANIE ANN MARIE GREEN: "Genuinely, what is the point? We’ve had national lockdowns, tiers, so what is Tier 5 gonna do?
"What some people clearly can’t see is that it’s here to stay, we have just got to live with it, it’s not just gonna magically disappear."
GREG HARES: "It’s people’s behaviour that will stop the spread. You can add as many tiers as you like. Those that think they are above any form of tier, will do as they please."
PAUL OSWIN: "New Zealand got it right from the start there all living a normal life now."
STEPHEN WINFIELD: "I will never go along with any lockdown."
LINDA HORNE: "Unfortunately Boris was relying on people’s common sense, and it seems the country doesn’t have any."
