POLICE tonight appealed for witnesses after an arson attack at the site of the Rollright Stones.
The volunteers' office was broken into and a portable gas heater was turned on and placed up against wooden furniture. This eventually started a small fire inside, which caused some damage.
The attack happened overnight Saturday to Sunday.
PC Rob Kelly, of Chipping Norton Police Station, said: "We are becoming increasingly concerned about the welfare of this historically important site. The Rollright Stones site has been targeted several times over the last year.
"Whatever the motivation behind these attacks, what it boils down to is wanton criminal damage and we are doing all we can to stop it; and we need the public's help in this. If you saw anything suspicious in the area of the stones over the weekend, please get in touch."
PC Kelly can be contacted via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.
