An elderly woman needed hospital treatment after she was bitten by a dog in Abingdon.
At about 3pm last Thursday, the woman was walking from the end of Fulwell Drive towards a footpath linked to Crosslands Drive, when a large dog came towards her and bit her on her arm, police said today.
The attack caused her to fall to the ground where she sustained further injuries to her arm and leg.
Pc Stuart Webber, of Abingdon police, said: "The dog looked like an Alsatian and was taken away from the scene by a lady who is thought to be its owner.
"This attack is particularly nasty and could have been prevented if the dog had been kept under control.
"The lady was taken to Abingdon hospital where she had treatment for her injuries.
"I am urging anyone who may have seen the dog and its owner prior to the incident to contact the police."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Webber on 08458 505505.
