I hope your readers will be reassured to hear that Doug Baker is mistaken in thinking that Oxford's rubbish is sent to China (Oxford Mail, November 27).

All our landfill refuse is disposed of locally, and our recyclables, in the blue boxes and bins, go to a materials recycling facility at Milton Keynes for sorting.

This plant separates the recyclable waste into various materials, which are then sold on the open market as raw materials for further use.

We are assured that most of the recyclables are reprocessed in the UK.
