Flowers have been left at the site of a car accident after a teenager died.

The 18-year-old man, who has not been identified, died in hospital after the green Renault Clio he was in hit a tree yesterday, as the vehicle travelled between Burford and Lechlade.

The accident on the A361, near the Cotswold Wildlife Park, at about 11.50pm, happened shortly after a bend in the road at the Kencot and Holwell crossroads.

It took firefighters 30 minutes to free the teenager, who was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, where he died.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance said a 17-year-old man in the vehicle was also taken to hospital suffering chest and shoulder injuries, although they were not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for Oxford coroner's office said the teenager had not yet been identified.

A cyclist was also seriously injured today in a collision with a car.

Police were called to the scene of the crash, on the A415, near the Aston Road junction, in Ducklington, near Witney, following the accident at about 6.25am.

A Ford Mondeo car was in collision with the cyclist, who was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed while accident investigators examined the scene. The road was later reopened.

The crash scene is about half a mile from a notorious accident blackspot.

Oxfordshire County Council said there had been three fatal accidents on the A415 within two-thirds of a mile of Cokethorpe School, in the five years up to September.

Head Damian Ettinger has repeatedly appealed for traffic calming outside the school.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 08458 505505.
