THERE have been 100 new cases of coronavirus in Oxfordshire.

The number of recorded positive cases of Covid-19 has increased by 100 over the last 24 hours.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 1,454 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 2,408.

The latest coronavirus cases on Thursday:

• Oxford - 32

• Oxfordshire – 100

• South East – 2,045

• UK – 17,555

This brings the total number of people who have tested positive to:

• Oxford – 3,240

• Oxfordshire- 10,058

• South East – 127,553

• UK – 1,574,562

A total of 498 people died in the United Kingdom after 28 days of a positive test result yesterday.

But there were no new deaths in the county – or the South East region.

Two have been confirmed this week – one in Oxford and another in South Oxfordshire, as reported on Tuesday.

NHS data revealed there were no new deaths at Oxfordshire hospitals so the two people either passed away at their home or care home.

This brings the total death toll of people who have died within 28 days of a positive test to:

• Oxford – 42

• Oxfordshire – 309

• South East – 5,816

• UK – 57,031

Other data has revealed that 114 patients are currently on ventilation with the virus at hospitals in the South East.
