Five serious crashes in Oxfordshire this week

Ahead of national Road Safety Week, emergency services raced to fatal collisions across Oxfordshire.

Here we map out all of the crashes (click on the pinpoints for more information and scroll down for police appeals): 

• Two people who had to be cut from their cars after 'another' major crash near the A40 on Friday were left with broken femurs. 

South Central Ambulance Service said it had got the call at around 9am on Friday, November 13, reporting a serious crash between a black Volkswagen Tiguan and a white BMW on Lower Road, near Church Hanborough.

• On Saturday two people died in a fatal crash between a car and a bus. 

A black Vauxhall Insignia was travelling in the direction of Bicester on the A4421 when it collided with a bus going in the opposite direction.

• That night a man died after his BMW black 1 Series overturned in a field on Chilton Road in West Hagbourne.

In a police appeal the investigator said he was looking to 'trace' a man who helped at the scene before emergency services arrived. 

PC Chris Weatherley said: “It’s possible that this witness may work for a security company and we believe he was driving from Chilton towards Didcot.

“At this stage, we believe that the BMW had travelled from the A34 and was travelling in the direction of Didcot.

“We are conducting an investigation into this collision, and I would also ask anybody who may have dash-cam footage, or witnessed the BMW driving in the area at around the time to please come forward.”

• On Monday a mini crashed into a HGV on the M40 after one of its tyres blew out.

On Facebook firefighters warned: "Tyre blowouts and other mechanical failures can happen to anyone but to help prevent it - always ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and try to anticipate what may happen around you."

• Firefighters had to cut the roof off a car after a serious crash in Marston when one of the drivers was left with 'severe injuries'

Firefighters also used the crash to warn drivers not to use mobile phones behind the wheel.
