The Salvation Army is pressing ahead to help the neediest families in Oxford over Christmas.

Between December 3 to December 12 the charity will be collecting donations of toys for children.

The charity will be collecting items from Hope Vineyard Church Oxford, in Templars Square.

All toys will be quarantined to make sure they are COVID safe and distribution is being managed in a socially-distanced, risk-reducing way.

Last years donations meant over 260 families had toys for Christmas day.

Major Tim Johnson, church leader for the Salvation Army, in Oxford, said: "We're very excited that HopeOxford have become our 'brothers (and sisters) in arms' by giving us their space to work in.

"We were suddenly without a premises for collection and distribution and they welcomed us in.

"Last year, we shared the toys given by the Oxford public with over 260 families.

"They made a huge difference to the children who received them on Christmas Day.

"The generosity and love that the people of Oxford have shown in giving toys year after year is wonderful to see .

This is an opportunity to bring some light into what has been a dark year for all of us."

A JustGiving page and an Amazon gift list has also been set up to allow those who would like to help but cannot travel because of COVID-19.

Details of both are on the church's webpage www.salvationarmy.org.uk/oxford

Major Johnson added: "If anyone would like to help us in the receiving and sorting of toys, we welcome offers of help.

"Tea, coffee and mince pies will be provided."
