WITH large public Remembrance Sunday ceremonies may be off this year, but Oxfordshire is still finding ways to remember the fallen of all world wars.
As well as customary poppy wreaths, the county has seen silhouettes of soldiers and, at Oxford’s Headington School, a field of ceramic poppies has sprung up on the front lawn.
Staff and pupils at the girls school, and Headington Prep made the flowers, which will be sold to raise money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Spokeswoman Fran Bardsley said: “The school has an active Combined Cadet Force unit, members of which have been among those choosing to make poppies. They have taken the lead in selling poppies made in school and other poppy-related items.”
Oxfordshire County Council urged anyone visiting war memorials tomorrow to observe social distancing. Many ceremonies will take place online.
