EXTINCTION Rebellion activists in Oxford hijacked a number of billboards across the city as part of a national grassroots action.

The campaigners, who are working with 'Brandalism' - an anonymous group of ‘subvertisers’, installed spoof HSBC adverts demanding that the bank ends its investment in fossil fuel projects, detention centres and climate destruction.

They can be seen on a number of bus stops across the city centre and South and East Oxford.

The campaign, which began yesterday, accuses HSBC of funding climate destruction and human rights abuses.

Activists in Oxford have previously targeted the bank by staging bloody 'die-ins' in front of local branches.

Oxford Mail:

A similar action was also seen outside Barclays Bank in the city in August.

April Jones, from the local branch of Extinction Rebellion, commented on the action: "It is important that people understand that HSBC may call itself the world's local bank, but its actions are actually endangering the world, especially people in some of the poorest parts of it."
