TWO men have been sentenced after burgling a cement mixer from a man in his 70's.
Joseph Joyce, 24, of Oaksview Park, Kidlington, and John Joyce, 23, of Redbridge Hollow, Oxford, had both admitted burglary.
They appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced.
Prosecutors said that the incident took place on the afternoon of October 12 this year.
The two men drove a van to an address in Kidlington.
There, they were seen by the householder loading a cement mixer from that premises into the van.
The court heard that the victim - a man aged in his 70s - 'courageously' confronted the men but was 'pushed' away as they laughed at him.
They then drove off and police later caught them and the stolen items were recovered.
The court also heard that both men have previous convictions to their name.
John has 16 crimes in his past, including a theft from a dwelling, while Joseph has three past offences.
John Joyce was jailed for eight months and Joseph Joyce was jailed for six months, but suspended for two years. Both must each pay a statutory victim surcharge.
