IT CAN now be revealed that another seven-foot boa constrictor was found dumped by its owner in Oxford woods in 2011.

It comes after news that a giant snake could be on the loose in the city after its shredded skin was found beside the Eastern By-Pass.

Oxford Mail:

The snake in 2011 was found a five-minute drive away from Shotover (right) where the skin was found.

The discovery of the poorly snake was made in Magdalen Wood, off Atykns Road, by a member of the public in the evening of April 22, 2011.

It was in a critical condition, with dehydration and burns to its skin.

At the time it had not responded to treatment and was due to be put down.

Dennis Lovell, then RSPCA animal collection officer, said: “We can tell from the condition of the snake that it has probably been kept in very poor conditions, and it would have taken it a long time to get in to this state. The vet suspects the wounds are burns and this can happen as a result of poor husbandry where the snake may have been able to lay against or on the heating apparatus.

“Whoever has just dumped this snake is completely irresponsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information about this snake to get in touch. Somebody must know of someone that kept a boa constrictor, as it is an unusual pet, and who may now suddenly not have one.”

The latest discovery of snakeskin is believed to be from a boa constrictor after expert advice from Evolution Reptiles in Kidlington.

Oxford Mail:

The shop does not sell that type of snake as they grow too big and assistant Nicole Head believes it was dumped deliberately.
