A YOUNG football fan snapped a seasonal selfie with David Beckham as he was shopping for Halloween in Oxfordshire.

The football star, 45, who has been spending lockdown with his family in their mansion in Great Tew, near Chipping Norton, was spotted shopping in Banbury on Friday.

He exited the family-run party shop Sweet Celebrations, on Church Lane, carrying bags of goods for the next day’s festivities.

Football fan Addison Smiley, who was also queuing with his mother Catriona to buy a Halloween costume from the store, was over the moon when he saw one of his ‘long-time heroes’ stroll out the door.

Oxford Mail:

The 18-year-old, who works at his family's business Smillies Cakes Pops in Middleton Cheney, near Banbury, was quick to ask Mr Beckham for a cheeky snap.

The two posed outside the shop for Mr Smiley’s own sweet celebrations.

It was not until afterwards that the teenager realised he was wearing a limited edition Manchester United top under his jumper that he was hoping Mr Beckham could sign.

When Mr Smiley’s mum, who runs the family-owned wedding events business Smillies Cakes Pops, posted the pictures on Facebook, she caused a frenzy amongst Banbury residents envious of their celebrity encounter.

She wrote: “The Beckhams were shopping in Sweet Celebrations whilst we were outside waiting to buy Halloween costumes.

“What a lovely chap, he happily posed for the pictures.”

Ms Smiley added that the family seemed ‘very relaxed’, especially because not many people recognised them as they were wearing masks.

Banbury residents were quick to praise the star for shopping ‘locally’ and supporting businesses in the town.

One Facebook user, Kirsty Pearce, commented: “I love the Beckhams – it is great they shop local.”
