OXFORD City will be in Tier 2 from tomorrow, but this does not mean 'high alert' coronavirus restrictions are in place for the entire Oxford area.

The Tier 2 boundary is the same as the Oxford City Council authority boundary, meaning some parts of Oxford are not under the same rules.

Most of Botley Road will be in Tier 2 but the McDonald's is not.

Everything west of the fast-food restaurant such as Seacourt Tower Retail Park; Tap Social Brewery; the Seacourt Bridge pub and the Fishes pub in North Hinksey are not included.

To the north of the city, North Oxford Golf Club is not within the Tier 2 boundary, neither is Oxford Parkway Park & Ride and Station.

Similarly, Horspath and Forest Hill to the east are not within the Oxford City district as well as North Hinksey and South Hinksey.

Moving into Tier 2 means people must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless you live with them or have formed a support bubble with them.

This includes private homes, and any other indoor venues such as pubs and restaurants.

Outdoors, you can meet in groups of up to six people.

It is not against the rules for people who live inside the Tier 2 boundary to go to a pub outside the boundary with people in the same household.

But the restrictions do say that ‘people should reduce the number of journeys they make where possible’.

If people need to travel, they should walk or cycle where possible. If taking public transport, they should plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes.

The rest of Oxfordshire will remain under the relatively relaxed Tier 1 restrictions for now.

But according to Oxfordshire County Council, the Covid rates across the rest of the county are on the rise and the county's director of public health as well as local political leaders of all parties want the whole county to be in Tier 2.
