Sir - Doug Howse asked (Letters, November 30) that the police should visit First Turn, Wolvercote, on a Sunday to see the inconsiderate parking near the farmers' market held at Wolvercote Primary School.
As one of the county councillors for the area, I have been aware of the problem for some time; it is not only on Sundays but also at school start and finish times.
As Mr Howse said, it causes huge problems for the number 6 bus which is sometimes unable to negotiate the corner from Mere Road into First Turn. Well over a year ago I asked the county council to paint some double yellow lines to protect the corners at least from this obstructive parking. Although the council consulted residents on a plan to provide yellow lines along the south side of Mere Road and round the corners, nothing happened.
The good news is that at last a firm proposal for double yellow lines has been drawn up and should be implemented in the not too distant future. This is long overdue and very welcome. One can only wonder why it took so long. Keeping bus routes free from obstruction is supposed to be one of the county council's priorities.
