Sir - Why does Michael Tyce (Letters, November 30) want the world to squander its finite oil and uranium reserves?

Fossil fuel use grows rapidly while discoveries of new supplies dwindle. In 1956, geophysicist Dr MK Hubbert accurately predicted US oil production would peak around 1970 and World oil production would peak about now. Nuclear power costs more. Uranium supplies are finite. Uranium mining, refining and transport, nuclear waste storage and plant decomissioning all emit carbon. Mr Tyce mocks wind power but ignores solar, tidal, wave and geothermal power. He distorts the IPCC's assessment of whether human actions cause climate change. Were he to walk blindfolded across the M40 I "don't know" if a vehicle would hit him but it would be "very likely". "Don't know" does not mean something is worth the risk!

Earlier, Mr Tyce distorted Mr Justice Burton's High Court judgement. Burton decided Al Gore's hypotheses in An Inconvenient Truth are "broadly accurate" and "accord with the latest conclusions of the IPCC".

Climate change would ruin agriculture and water resources in many regions, turn millions into refugees, damage the world economy and threaten to increase international conflict. Increasing renewable power reduces climate change, secures our economy, promotes sustainable industries and thousands of jobs.
