COMMUNITY-SPIRITED schools will join forces to collect winter gear for people in need.
Five schools in Carterton are behind next week’s coat donation initiative that urges people to ditch their unwanted warm garments.
Their simple message is: “If you have a spare coat in good, clean condition, please consider donating it.
“If you need a coat, please come and take one.”
People can donate clothing of all sizes and ages.

Drop-off and pick-up points will be open from Monday.
The Carterton schools taking part in the initiative include Carterton Primary School, Carterton Community College, Gateway Primary School, Edith Moorhouse School and St. John the Evangelist School.
In a heartfelt letter to all parents Amanda Carter, school counsellor at Carterton Community College, wrote: "Noone should feel cold this winter due to circumstances beyond their control.
"We are a caring community and we recognise how we all come together in these difficult times to support each other where there is need.
"Our rails will be available to people and they can take a warm coat without judgement if they are not unable to afford one."
