AN EXCLUSIVE behind-the-scenes tour shows how a power plant in Oxford provides electricity to more than 500 homes.
The £3.2m Sandford Hydro plant in the Thames just south of Oxford started operating last year and is owned by hundreds of residents who bought shares.
The team behind the virtual tour created it so that anyone can take a look inside the control room and turbine hut without needing to go in person.

Built by Oxford’s Low Carbon Hub group, the power plant generates a huge 1.6 GWh of renewable electricity per year, which is the equivalent demand for 500+ households – or most of the homes in Sandford.
