THREE new laboratories have been built at a Kidlington school and a science block remodelled as part of a £732,000 project.

The Gosford Hill School scheme will bring all the schools science buildings under one roof, bringing the total number of labs at the school to 10. The improvements to science facilities follow a £2m investment by the county council to provide new design and technology buildings.

The project is being carried out in two phases. Phase one was completed in September, and cost £213,000.

It involved converting two science labs into design and technology workshops and providing two new science laboratories.

The county council will now carry out a major internal remodelling of the existing science facilities to enlarge the laboratory areas and provide a central preparation area. The cost of the second phase of the project is estimated at £519,000.

Michael Waine, the council's cabinet member for schools, said: "We are spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on improvements to Gosford Hill Schools science buildings.

"Once this project is complete, students will be able to make use of ten large modern laboratories all under one roof.

"This will bring the school up to date and provide excellent resources for science teaching."
