The Oxford Mail is today relaunching our popular special offer allowing readers to buy cycle helmets for just £6 - a saving of nearly £10.

In August, we teamed up with Witney firm Oxford Products for the offer in a bid to cut the number of serious head injuries in accidents.

More than 2,000 people took advantage of the deal. Now the campaign to get more people to wear helmets has been relaunched in the run-up to Christmas to remind parents buying their children bicycles as gifts to remember to kit them out with helmets as well.

Margaret Marsh, newspaper sales manager for the Oxford Mail, said: "We were overwhelmed with the response to our campaign. Many families will be getting their children bikes for Christmas, so it's a timely reminder that helmets are an essential part of cycling safely.

"We hope that lots of people will take advantage of this fantastic offer and get themselves ready to ride safely around Oxfordshire."

The cycle helmets, which cost £14.99 normally, conform to European safety standards and are available in a variety of sizes and colours, to fit everyone from children to adults. They also come with a 12-month crash warranty, so if the cyclist comes off his or her bike and their helmet absorbs an impact, making it less protective, they will get a free replacement.

The campaign was launched in the wake of an accident in Iffley Road, Oxford, in July, involving 10-year-old Numaan Khan, of Church Cowley Road, who was almost paralysed in a cycling accident, because he was not wearing a helmet. His father, Hassan Khan, called on parents to buy their children the potentially life-saving crash hats.

Last year 148 cyclists were injured in accidents in Oxford - most were aged between 16 and 25.

To take advantage of the offer and get a helmet, you will need to bring along the voucher printed in Monday's Oxford Mail and bring it to our offices in Osney Mead, Oxford; Market Square, Bicester; Market Square, Witney; and High Street, Banbury, between 9am and 5.15pm from Monday to Friday, until December 14.
