More than 2,000 homes in Oxford were without power this morning.
Homes suffered a blackout at about 10.13am and three teams of emergency engineers from Southern Electric were sent to the area to find the fault.
Many of the 2,200 homes in the Iffley and East Oxford areas had power switched back on before lunch but around 200 properties had to wait until the afternoon.
The blackout was caused by a high voltage fault in a main substation in St Ebbes.
A Southern Electric spokesman apologed for the power failure and although investigations into the cause are ongoing believed the high winds and rain were responsible.
