Club-goers are getting their first look inside Oxford city centre's biggest club - which reopens tonight with a VIP Champagne reception.

Park End Club, in Park End Street, has relaunched as a new Lava Ignite club, following a £500,000 refurbishment.

Over the weekend, customers at the 1,200-capacity club will be entertained by stilt walkers, dancers and other performing acts. They are also getting the chance to try out the club's new scented dancefloor.

Club general manager Ken Getgood said: "The club is looking absolutely fantastic following the refurbishment.

"We've created two big dance rooms, as well as three other spaces, and will be offering a wide selection of music.

"Downstairs will be more 80s music, with dance music upstairs. There will be 70s music and R'n'B in other areas. "

Dan Stone, 28, from East Oxford, said: "I loved Park End, and it sounds like they have spent the money to really bring it up-to-date."

Damian Johnson, 24, from Blackbird Leys, Oxford, said: "It's going to be cool seeing all the changes they have made there."

Mr Getgood said offering a wide variety of music was important.

He said: "It is all about what you can offer, in terms of music, under one roof.

"It's about appealing to everyone and we've got something to cater for all age groups.

"There is so much interest in the club, people should definitely get down early to avoid disappointment."

Following the opening night the new venue has also confirmed some big name acts, including Marcus Patrick, who plays Ben Davies in Channel 4 series Holyoaks on Friday December 14.

DJ Mikee B from Radio One's Dream Team will play at the launch of VIBE, the club's own R'n'B night on Thursday December 6.

The refurbishment of the club has cost £500,000, but it has not been easy for the club which remained open throughout the whole thing.

Mr Getgood said: "It was a rolling refurbishment and we've stayed open through the whole thing. It was difficult but we got there in the end."
