SEAT Sport UK will retain its Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship Teams' winning driver line up for 2008, with Oxford driver Jason Plato and Darren Turner confirmed as the squad's drivers for next season.
They will pilot the team's two-car SEAT Leon challenge.
It will be statistically one of the strongest teams in next year's series. Since contesting the BTCC for the first time in 2004, SEAT Sport UK has contested 120 races, winning 33, recording 83 podiums and scoring 2,245 Manufacturers' points. It was the BTCC Manufacturers' Champion in 2006 and the BTCC Teams' Champion in 2007.
Next year will be Jason's fifth consecutive season with Northampton-based SEAT Sport UK. The 2001Champion has a good record with SEAT in the BTCC Drivers' standings, finishing runner-up twice (2006 and '07), 3rd in 2004 and 4th in 2005. Jason made his BTCC race debut in 1997 and since then has contested 246 races, amassed 1921 points and scored 38 wins - making him the second highest race winning driver in the history of the series. He was the only driver to score points in all 30 races in 2007 and won the British Racing Drivers' ClubSilver Star award for a record third time.
Darren made his BTCC debut with SEAT in 2006 and has contested 45 races, winning three and scoring 201 points.
He finished 6th overall in the 2007 series, which was his first full season in the BTCC. He also has an amazing qualifying record, starting from the front row five times out of ten- two of which were from pole position.
Jason Plato: "I'm really looking forward to the start of the 2008 season. We have achieved so much as a team in just four years and we all know that we must continue to raise our game and do all we can to enable us to challenge for all the Manufacturers', Drivers' and Teams' titles. The BTCC is a very tough championship to win, but we know what's needed to succeed and we'll be fighting hard for every race win in 2008. I'm really optimistic about next season and can't wait to get racing again."
Darren Turner: "I'm relishing the opportunity to be back racing in the BTCC with SEAT next year and I'm delighted to have been given the chance to have a crack at the full season again. This year I had the best qualifying average of any driver, I was really pleased with my pace and with my three race wins. It was unfortunate that I wasn't in the running for the Drivers' title at the end of the year, but I learnt a lot about touring car racing this season and I hope to put all that knowledge to good use in 2008. I want to start the new year a lot stronger and fight for race wins from the beginning. It's all very positive and between Jason and myself I'm sure we can mount a strong challenge for all three Championships that are available to us."
