A 45-year-old man rescued from a river in Wantage has died.
He was found by a passer-by in Letcombe Brook, near Mill Street, at about 5.15pm on Tuesday.
Paramedics took him to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Police today announced the man had died.
It is believed he had been walking home from the Sainsbury's supermarket at about 5pm before he was spotted in the water.
Initially, the Oxford Mail was told by an ambulance spokesman that resuscitation attempts at the scene were unsuccessful yesterday morning.
This information, which appeared in our original story, was incorrect.
In fact, further attempts to save his life were made at hospital, which ultimately failed.
Det Insp Paul Miller said: "We're not treating the death as suspicious but would like to hear from anyone who saw the man on Tuesday afternoon."
Anyone with information should call Mr Miller on 08458 505505.
