AGENCY workers at a washing machine company have lost their jobs ahead of a ‘global review’ that could see more posts axed.
Miele in Abingdon confirmed that the contracts of a number of workers were terminated following financial difficulties during the Covid-19 crisis.
The German company, however, refused to reveal how many people were laid off in the cuts.

A Miele employee, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Oxford Mail that the business had terminated all of its contract staff, including the entire in-house restaurant.
They added: “They are about to make further redundancies.
“This will have an impact on nearly all of the employees at their Abingdon HQ.”
John Pickering, managing director of Miele at Abingdon, addressing the rumours, said: “In 2019, Miele announced that it would be embarking on a global review of all aspects of its operations.
“This includes efficiency and resourcing, to ensure the long-term success of the company.”
