POLICE have revealed one of the most ridiculous 999 calls in a bid to urge others to 'think before dialling'.

Thames Valley Police said a lot of people use the emergency numbers about non-police related topics, including one woman who phoned about her neighbour simply being locked out of the house.

In the 20-second call she said: "Hi Good morning.

"Our neighbour's just come round and said they can't get into their house.

"Is this a police matter, or do you phone a locksmith?"

The call handler confirms: "So, they can't get into their house?"

Before adding: "Yeah, if they're locked out and it's not been forced or anything or anything then yeah, they need to speak to a locksmith."

The woman, who's voice has been been disguised, then says: "locksmith, ok."

The call, which sparked anger when it was shared on social media and watched more than 9,000 times, was then ended.

In the comments, one person said: "Wasting valuable police time - ridiculous."

According to TVP's own statistics, on average it took eight minutes to get through to an operator on 101 in 2018.

  • In an emergency always call 999
  • In a non-emergency call 101
