LYNN Guthrie entrusted her parents and her best friend to find her a man.

And the results are screened on BBC2 programme, Arrange Me A Marriage, at 8pm tonight.

Ms Guthrie, 37, said: "A workmate saw some information about the programme at the beginning of this year and told me she wanted to put me forward for it.

"I said OK, not ever dreaming I would get through.

"But I did and before I knew it my mum and dad and my best friend Lisa were out networking, looking for suitable men to introduce me to."

Arrange Me A Marriage attempts to match couples using the principles of Asian arranged marriages.

The five-part series features men and women who are matched according to class, education, family background, life goals and earnings.

But instead of looking for partners, they entrust their friends and relatives to do it.

Account development manager, Ms Guthrie said: "I can't believe how well my mum and dad (Ann, 68 and Lyell, 72), and my friend Lisa Kent, 38, did in finding people.

"They basically spoke to everyone they knew, then drew up a shortlist and went and talked to them."

Ms Guthrie was given the final pick of a shortlist of two.

She said: "Then the night of the party came and I was waiting outside, about to walk into Lisa's house, where all my friends and family and all Stephen's friends and family were already getting to know each other."

She added: "The meeting party was very strange, because we walked around being introduced to everyone - it was like being at my wedding!

"Stephen, who was from Buckingham, and I went on several dates, but we never really clicked.

"Even so, I am glad I did the programme. I have seen the final cut and it is strange to watch myself - it still does not feel like it is me.

"I'll be sitting down with my mum and dad and Lisa to watch the show, but I don't know what everyone at work is going to say."

The suitor not picked by Ms Guthrie, of Thame, was widowed father-of-two, Alistair Morris, 46, from Arlington Drive, Marston.

He agreed to star in the programme in the hope of finding a partner, and stepmother for his two young children, Bethan and Callum.

He was interviewed by the show's producers and then faced a grilling from Ms Guthrie's mother and sister.

But his credentials failed to impress, and she chose to meet the other man instead.

He said: "I do not know why she chose the other guy over me, but it might have been something to do with the fact that she has a dog, a cat and rides horses - all of which I am allergic to.

"I suppose that kind of ruled me out really.

"If we had got together, just cuddling her after she had been on a horse would have put me in hospital!"
