I notioce a bandwagon starting over speeding offences.
The Government is considering six points per offence and now Dennis Brown (Oxford Mail, November 13) suggests taking away offenders' licences - one month for a first offence, six months for a second and a life ban for a third.
If you increase the severity, many more motorists, instead of just paying up, will demand their day in court and will become more interested in traffic law.
This will clog up an already over-burdened court system and, if sentences for murderers, rapists and paedophiles are anything to go by, life will probably only mean a year, and for what?
That will mean additional taxes to pay for extra courts, barristers and judges, and extra local government staff to ensure that the Road Traffic Act 1988 is being adhered to before cases go to court.
Still, look at the bright side. If most drivers are banned, look how clear the roads will be.
The police will be able to spend more time arresting cyclists, then pedestrians will have the roads to themselves.
