STUDENTS awaiting their BTec grades will have to wait after an exam board pulled the results.

Pearson said it would be regrading its BTecs, a move which impacts 450,000 pupils.

The latest saga surrounding results day follows the A-level results fiasco, which resulted in the Government performing a U-turn on a controversial algorithm.

Pearson said in a statement: “Because BTec results are largely based on modular teacher-assessed projects and assignments, overall grade outcomes have been generally consistent with teacher and learner expectations.

“However, following Monday’s announcement from Ofqual and feedback from students, teachers, schools and colleges, we became concerned about fairness, including consistency with the approaches now being used for GCSEs and A Levels.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. Our priority is to ensure the fairest outcomes for BTEC students and to also ensure they are not disadvantaged in comparison to their peers.”
