A man is in a critical condition in hospital today after being found in a river in Wantage.
The 45-year-old man was found by a member of the public in Letcombe Brook, near Mill Street, at about 5.15pm last night.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, after being treated at the scene by paramedics.
Det Insp Paul Miller, of Thames Valley Police, said: "We currently have no evidence of foul play but we are investigating how he came to be in the brook.
"We believe the man had been to Sainsbury's and was on his way home.
"If you saw him walking along the brook or have information which could help us find out what happened to him then please contact police."
The man is slim, with grey short hair and glasses. He was wearing a baseball cap, a blue and white three-quarter-length coat and jeans. He may have been carrying an orange Sainsbury's bag.
Anyone with information should call Det Insp Miller on 08458 505505.
