A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital today after being found in Letcombe Brook, near Mill Street, Wantage.
The 45-year-old man, who was found at about 5.15pm last night, is in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Det Insp Paul Miller said: "We currently have no evidence of foul play but we are investigating how he came to be in the brook.
"We believe the man had been to Sainsbury's and was on his way home. If you saw him walking along the brook or have information which could help us find out what happened to him then please contact police.
The man is white, slim, with grey short hair. He wears glasses and was wearing a baseball cap, a blue and white threequarter-length coat and jeans. He may have been carrying an orange Sainsbury's bag.
If you have information please contact Det Insp Miller via 0845 8 505 505. If you do not wish to speak to police or give your name you can call the Crimestoppers chariy on 0800 555 111.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said there had earlier been "some misinformation that the man was found dead and the incident was initially reported as the discovery of a body".
