Campaigners have set up an online petition to save Cogges Manor Farm from the threat of closure.
As revealed exclusively in the Oxford Mail, Oxfordshire County Council has drawn up plans that could involve selling off the 20-acre site, near Witney, possibly for housing.
The action is being considered to find savings of £250,000 in the authority's troubled musuems service.
But Justin Bowyer of Hazel Close, Witney, said: "The site provides an invaluable resource to the community.
"It is an educational, historic site central to many annual events.
"Any right-thinking council would give its eye teeth to have a gem such as Cogges within its jurisdiction."
