A CYCLIST is fighting for his life after a hit and run in Wantage this morning.
The incident happened at 8.45am on the A417 near Ardington Wick.
A 74-year-old man from Wantage has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision. He is currently in police custody.
Police were looking for a silver hatchback car that hit the cyclist and carried on driving.
Officers said there would be visible damage to the windscreen.
The cyclist, a 38-year-old man, has life-threatening injuries.
South Central Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to Reading Road at 8.38am.
An ambulance crew, rapid response vehicle and air ambulance all went to the scene and the man, who had serious multiple injuries, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Investigating officer, Inspector Simon Hills, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would like to continue to appeal to anyone who has information relating to it to get in contact.
“I would also like to thank everyone who has already come forward with information following our earlier appeal.”
Road closures were in place following the incident but these have since been removed.
