FIREFIGHTERS were called to a bizarre emergency when a curious cow got its head stuck in a tree trunk. 

Daisy, a black and white cow, had to be rescued on Thursday morning by an army of vets and specialist crews from Oxford and Kidlington.

Firefighters lubricated the cow's head inside the tree, near Water Eaton, before pulling it free with straps. 

It was trapped for about an hour before it was released at about midday. 

Firefighters said the cow had collapsed three times and video footage shows Daisy covered in soil.

Taking to Facebook, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our crews from Kidlington and Rewley Road had an unusual rescue today when called to a rare incident – a ‘cow stuck in a tree’ near to Water Eaton.

“This footage shared from the BBC shows the moment of the release, after our specialist animal rescue crew, firefighters, owner and vet from Hook Norton Vets worked together to free the animal which had collapsed three times and needed to be freed to prevent injury.

“Daisy seemed none the worse for the ordeal and was checked over by the vets afterwards.”
