A RESTAURATEUR famed for serving some of Oxford’s finest steaks, has ‘moved with the times’ by turning his other business entirely vegetarian.
Tom Rainey, who runs the Porterhouse Grill in Mill Street, west Oxford, has reopened his popular pub, The Punter, on nearby Osney Island, with a vegetarian and vegan menu.
Favourites include dishes influenced by Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Far Eastern cuisines.
Welcoming guests back to the South Street pub after lockdown, he said: “We were ready to move with the times. There wasn’t anywhere local solely dedicated to high-end veggie cooking, so we went for it.
“So far people have been loving it.
“While lots of places offer veggie dishes, there really isn’t anywhere exclusively dedicated to offering high-end plant-based cooking, with interesting global flavours.”
The Punter is open every day of the week. Book at thepunteroxford.co.uk or call 01865 248832.
