A tiny Oxfordshire village has been buzzing with gossip about Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue.

Residents in Upton, near Didcot, have been talking of little else other than the petite singer, after rumours began circulating Miss Minogue, 39, was looking for a property.

Some villagers claim they know people who have seen her supping in local pub, the George and Dragon.

Other locals said she had bought Upton Lodge, as it was an ideal location for horseriding lessons in nearby Blewbury.

Village postmistress Margaret Maytham said: "Everyone was convinced that she was going to buy Upton Lodge. The place is abuzz - and there will be lots of disappointed men if she is not coming!

"I know she has been seen in the George and Dragon. It would be very exciting if she did come."

Her husband Austin said: "We have heard she looked at houses in Blewbury.

"I think she is the sort of person that would get involved with the village."

One drinker in The Red Lion in Blewbury, said: "I heard she had bought Upton Lodge for £3.7m and outbid a Rolling Stone."

But Ben Amos, grandson of Upton Lodge owner Brian Amos said: "There is no truth in the rumour that Kylie Minogue has bought Upton Lodge.

"She has been seen in several places on the Downs, riding and visiting local restaurants and pubs, but she is not joining our community.

"My grandfather sold Upton Lodge to two sisters who bought it with money from a family trust and will be moving in very shortly."

According to another rumour spreading around the village, Miss Minogue had arrived at the Sweet Olive restaurant in Aston Tirrold but had been turned away because the owner did not know who she was.

However, the restaurant's owner, who asked not to be named, said: "Yes, she's been here. She had a nice meal.

"We didn't turn her away - she had a meal with us. It was definitely her.

"I didn't recognise her at the time, but when someone told me afterwards I knew it was her."

However, Kylie's spokesman Murry Chalmers, said: "She is not looking for a house in the area, and she has not been to the area."
